Here are a couple pics from my dad's lovely garden. Believe it or not, it was actually even larger than this when I was growing up and all 3 of us kids were at home with our big appetites. He's downsized it to what you see here which is still quite large. When he and my mom do the freezing, canning and storing in the late summer/fall it's amazing to see the wide variety of what was grown.
Growing up I took the garden for granted. I didn't realize that not everyone grew their own food and the garden really wasn't my favorite place to be because it meant weeds, heat and flying grasshoppers. Now, as an adult with an appreciation for homegrown food, the idea of being able to grow my own produce without harmful pesticides and have it taste so fresh makes complete sense to me.
This will be my first summer planting my own garden and I'm excited to see how it goes. I started my plants last week and they are sitting in my bay window getting sunshine until I see some green sprouts peek through. Wish me luck!
